A 78-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer’s disappeared in Salobreña on Thursday after last having been seen on a beach.
After the sad ending to a search for an Itrabo man under similar circumstances; elderly and suffering Alzheimer’s, locals and family feared the worse.
By just after midnight 0n the same day was found, safe and sound, thanks to the search parties that had been organised.
The man, who goes by the name of Nicolás, had last been seen at 19.30h in his flat on the Urbanización Mare Nostrum, on the beach front. As soon as his disappearance had been reported, the municipality put into play all its resources to find him.
Besides the local Guardia Civil personnel, officers from Almuñécar were also brought in, working alongside the Policía Local and even the lifeguards from the beaches. Also, importantly, his disappearance was broadcast on social media.
He was finally found in the old town not long after midnight after Eugenia Alonso, who lives on Calle Cartero Manuel Montilla stumbled on Nicolás and took him home with him, where he remained until the police turned up to collect him.
