The infrastructure work on Salobreña’s TH1 area has finally been completed and the new road from the Peñon to La Guardia has been inaugurated.
The official inauguration was on Tuesday the 19th, coinciding with the removal of all the barriers that had restricted access to the new Camino del Gambullón. The Mayor said that it was a historic day and a key moment for the development of the town.
The area has been undergoing infrastructure laying work for the last two years, starting with the removal of the last remains of the sugarcane fields. A budget of over 4-million euros was used to adapt 215,000 sq/metres of land.
The new road includes a bicycle lane and street lighting while the TH1 area also now has a park with a width of 100 metres along a good part of the beach between the Peñon and La Guardia, giving it a surface area of 45,000 sq/m.
For obvious reasons, vehicles are restricted from this seafront park area, thus breaking with the old-style seafront paseos with vehicle access, explained the Municipal Surveyor.
The rest of the seafront area is reserved for hotels, with two plots for 4-to-5-star hotels, both with a capacity of between 650 and 700 rooms.
Finally, and as mentioned in an earlier article, their is a 4.,500-sq/m plot next to the Parque La Fuente for the new Medical Centre, as agreed with the Southern Health Board (Junta de Andalucia)
