Almuñecar has been busily building extra niches in the municipal cemetery to keep up with the increased number of cremations.

Workers have erected a total of 78 mini niches (40X40X120cm columbarios) for burial urns, informed the Councillor in charge of that sort of thing, María del Carmen Reinoso.

The fact is that with two functioning crematoriums in Almuñécar now, space was urgently needed for the funeral urns or even bones left over after the incineration process.

The Town Hall put the job up to bidding and four companies came forward, but Bagelsa Costa Tropical landed the contract, worth 9,325 euros.
