Air Accident in Loja

GRA Loja Air CrashThe Civil Aviation Authority is investigating an air accident near the Loja airfield on the 26th of May when a light aircraft crashed.

The aircraft came down around 12.30h in an olive grove not far from the airfield. The 55-year-old pilot was killed and a 25-year-old passenger was seriously injured, both of whom are from the province of Málaga.

A driver on the A-92 heading in the Sevilla direction witnessed the accident (kilometre point 178) and phoned into the emergency 112 number.

A Guardia Civil helicopter was immediately despatched, together with the local fire service, protección civil, ambulance and municipal police. The injured man was immediately flow to Hospital Carlos Haya in Málaga.

According to the Guardia Civil, the aircraft had taken off from the Campillos airfield in Málaga with a flight plan for a tour around the province of Granada before returning to its point of departure. Other than the proximity to the crash, the Cuesta de la Palma airfield in Loja was not involved.
