The Almuñécar Fire Service was busy Saturday evening, putting out a fire on a piece of overgrown wasteland near Costa Banana.

The precise location was next to the old José Díaz builder’s yard, near the top of Avenida Costa de Sol. Owing to the intensity of the fire, the glow was visible from other parts of the town.

Locals had alerted the emergency services to a fire, saying that it was near some old huts and bushes.

The fire personnel, aided by the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil, were able to put the fire out, but not before it consumed approximately 500 sq/m.

The Guardia Civil are investigating the cause of the fire.
