A Moroccan driver was chased in central Almuñécar and detained by the Policía Local after he had been seen driving erratically around the octopus roundabout.

The man does not possess a driving licence and it is believe that the VW Touran had been stolen in the city of Granada that same day.

The incident took place around four in the morning on Thursday. The driver, 20-year-old Abdelkarim J., had been racing around the said roundabout at the beach end of Avenida del Rey Juan Carlos I. When he caught sight of the police patrol, he sped off up the said avenue with the police patrol car in pursuit.

According to the police, the driver nearly forced the patrol car off the road on three occasions as well as making some procesionistsas using a zebra crossing jump for their lives.

The chase ended with the stolen car hitting a lamppost at the beginning of Avenida Costa del Sol where Calle la Cala (market road) joins it. Fortunately, nobody was hurt during the chase nor in the collision with the lamppost.
