Cantarriján Naturist Association

LHR Playa CantarrijanPlaya de Cantarriján in La Herradura started off as purely a nudist beach but over the years has been losing that use. It’s not that fewer nudists go, but that more normal beachgoers use the said beach.

Nudism is not forbidden on any beach in Spain under the law but each coastal municipality tends to designate a specific beach for nudists; such is the case of La Herradura’s Playa Cantarriján.

During most of the year nudists are the majority of beachgoers there but during the summer they are in a minority. In fact, some families are surprised to see somebody bathing nude and complain, even going to the extent of demanding their shuttle bus-fare back.

It was because of this tendency that the Asociación de Amigos de la Playa Nudista de Cantarriján came about, in 2017.

The A.A.P.N.C. calls for respect towards naturism or nudism by clothed beach users – or ‘Textiles’ as they are known in Spain.

One of their main objectives is to have Cantarriján plainly signposted as a nudist beach (Playa de Tradición Naturista), which is the case with other beaches across Spain of this nature. This way there will be no misunderstandings.

The association has tried, without success, to meet with the Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón, to discuss this, as the they intend to hold various courses down on the beach, not only to promote naturism, but also to increase awareness for the protection of the natural environment.
