Beach Plastic Clean Up

ALM Plastic Beach Clean Up 2A dozen volunteers have cleared up nearly half a tonne of debris on Playa de Fuentepiedra, which had been dragged down Rio Verde in Almuñécar by the heavy rainfall.

The clean up was a spontaneous operation, organised via online social media and was backed up by heavy machinery from the cleaning company charged with maintaining the municipality’s beaches. They also provided rubbish bags and gloves

“The volunteers only picked up plastic objects so that they wouldn’t end up in the sea, leaving the vegetation, mainly wild cane, to the cleaning company. This clean up started Saturday morning (the 2nd), around the mouth of Río Seco. Work continued on Monday, including the rest of the town’s beaches in order to have the beaches cleaned up for Semana Santa,” said the Manager of the cleaning company, Urbaser.
