The Councillor for Citizen Safety in Motril announced that a man had been arrested for allegedly breaking into several parked cars last week.
The incident unfolded shortly after 07.05h on the morning of the 15th after the police received a call from a local to say that a man was forcing parked cars on the Avenida Rambla de los Álamos.
The police arrived in time to spot the individual, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a woolen cap, who then immediately ran off. The police managed to catch up with him in an adjacent street.
The 51-year-man, who was no stranger to police cells, was carrying several objects that did not belong to him, such as sunglasses, CDs, three penknives, credit cards, torches and several tools.
There had also been a nearby car broken into on Calle Ancha.
He was taken into custody to await an appearance before a magistrate.
Editorial comment: who leaves their credit cards in their car overnight?
