With the year drawing to a close, the Acompalia Board met for the last time this year, on December 19th 2017, in order to review accomplishments achieved during the past twelve months and prepare for the year to come.
In spite of difficulties imposed by our phone service provider this year -now resolved- Acompalia has, once again, helped many families in distress in the Granada province, directed requests for help received from out of Granada to relevant charities and appropriate official bodies.
We have strengthened the relationship with the Santa Ana Motril hospital and Public Health service by making presentations at public gatherings, meetings with palliative care staff and head of hospitals, as well as conducting the first complementary therapy workshop in the Day Hospital.
In 2018, we aim to offer to our members more informative talks in the form of Death Cafés and discussions in collaboration with the Santa Ana Motril Hospital and our partner ASV Servicios Funerarios. Also in the New Year and beyond, we are aiming to provide a continuous network of helping hands to assist in resolving all queries received from patients and families.
A further objective is to provide medical professionals the support they need from us to ensure terminally-ill patients a dignified death. Clearly these targets can only be achieved with the appropriate human resources in place so we are again putting out a call for volunteers.
On our fundraising front, once again our volunteers have excelled themselves. With over 15 events ranging from theatre, a horse raid, the now annual Golf Tournament and open gardens in La Alpujarra to diverse fun events by our strong volunteer group of Castell de Ferro, not forgetting a tasty wine quiz, a crowd-gathering Flamenco Summer concert, and a mesmerising 4-week long Contemporary Fine Art exhibition in Motril, raising over 20,000€!
Acompalia must thank all our generous donors of items to our charity shop in Lanjaron without whom we would not be able to open twice a week, 40 weeks a year. We must extend our thanks to all our volunteers who ensure the shop is open! As you may have noted, we closed for a short period during the summer for reorganisation and refurbishment. Our aim and endeavour in 2018 is to bring you an even more functional space, many promotions and surprises in the New Year!
However, we would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that Acompalia always needs more volunteers. We have structured our volunteering needs into different hubs in order for you to choose with which arm of Acompalia you would like to best help. Whether you can dedicate our non-profit association a few hours periodically or all year round, please refer to https://acompalia.org/news/answering-social-goal/ and let us know how you would like to help by filling in and sending back the online form. Alternatively, contact us on our Facebook page or send us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
To enable us to continue offering our range of FREE services, we need a steady stream of income. That is best achieved by a strong community support. For a minimum of 15€ a year – the equivalent of a monthly beer and tapa -, you can help us send more volunteers to the hospital or at patients’ side.
You can help us best staff our helpline and maybe offer this service more hours than we currently are able. You can help us reach more people who in turn will reach more people, thereby spreading the word about Acompalia.
Enrol your friends, be part of a caring, like-minded community, help others in need, bring more meaning to your own life and more life to terminally-ill patients. Promote generosity and positivity within your family, among your friends and in your community, be assured that every little helps, give if you cannot volunteer and help us create the largest and strongest network of palliative care supporters in the Granada province.
In addition, do not forget that our donors can benefit from a possible tax deduction since Acompalia was granted Utilidad Pública number 7965. So, go to https://acompalia.org/members/ and https://acompalia.org/donate/ >and fill the forms online.
Alternatively, we are more than happy to provide you with a document to fill in when you contact us on our Facebook page or send us an email on email@example.com.
The year would also not be complete without the warmest thanks to all our volunteers, all our supporters, all our donors – particular or companies- all the companies that provide us support in-kind, all our media partners, all our medical partners, all of you for your acts of kindness big or small, your words of support, your encouragements online, your smiles and your hugs.
Best wishes for the holiday season!
