Salobreña has organised lots of Christmas activities for you, including, music, workshops, sports and kiddies’ activities.
Starting today, you have Christmas Carol singing followed by hot chocolate and churros up in the old town. That’s 18.00h in the Plaza del Museo (old town-hall square) and just as soon as the singing stops chocolate goodies, put on by the neighbourhood association for the old town, bless their cotton socks.
Next, on Thursday the 21st – and if you have been inspired by Sunday’s warbling – there is the XX Concurso de Villancicos (20th Carols Competition) which is organised each year by Radio Salobreña in collaboration with the Chiringuitos Association. This will be held at 18.00h in the Casa de la Cultura.
Haven’t had enough of carols? I ask because the next day at 20.00h with a 2-euros entrance fee for the same venue, there is a another bout of Christmas Carols put on by Mudesa, the women’s association from the throats of their Coros Rocieros. One of the most moving songs that rociero choirs do is the Salve Rociera. Here below is an example on youtube of the said salve:
On Boxing Day (26th) in the Casa de la Cultura at noon (12.00h) there will be workshops for making Christmas figures – you have to get your name down for it before the 21st, mind.
You also have the Banda Municipal giving a Christmas performance on Wednesday the 27th with theme tunes from Disney cartoons and film, so a great one for the kids! That’s the Casa de la Cultura at 20.30h with an entrance fee of five euros.
There are two days of kiddies’ activities, on the 26th at the Casa de la Cultura and on the 3rd of January in the Plaza Picasso.
If you’re feeling energetic and guilty about your Xmas-calory intake there are sporting events too, with the San Silvestre cross-country race, which will be held on the 29th for the 5th year running. If you want to participate, visit this website. It’s a fancy-dress race and leaves the Plaza del Museo at 17.30h.
Then, of course, there is the Three Kings Parade, leaving the Playa del Peñon at 18.30h. When it gets to Plaza Juan Carlos I, it will be met by a performance from the girls at the Escuela Espacio Baraka and the Mayor, who will give the Key to the Town to the Three Kings.
Lobres and La Caleta also have their separate activities over the Christmas period that include a puppet show (Lobres 22nd) and high tea for the elderly; i.e. coffee and cakes (Lobres 3rd).
