The PSOE has called on the Minister of the Interior to visit the immigrant holding centre in Motril to see what a state it is in.
The Centro Temporal de Inmigrantes is holding illegal immigrants in numbers far above what it was designed to, something that the police union has repeatedly pointed out. Consequently both the immigrants and the staff there are existing in a stressful situation.
“It is urgent that the Government comes up with explanations over the situation there; circumstances that demonstrate its incapacity to manage the immigrant situation,” said the socialist MP who presented the motion in the House of Parliament, alluding to the fact that a new prison in Archidona has been used as a temporary solution to the ballooning illegal immigrant figures.
Editorial comment: the massive arrival of illegal immigrants to the southern coast in Spain in the last few weeks has completely swamped the holding centres, such as the one in Motril and there seems to be no sign of this situation letting up.
