It was on the night of Halloween that locals in the centre of Motril heard the lamentable whining of a dog in distress – it was coming from a rain drain.
The drain is on Avenida de Andalucía, by the way. Anyway, how the hell did a dog get stuck down a rain drain, you may ask?
Well, the dog was a hunting hound and had probably got into the drainage system from the vega in the Avenida de la Constitución area. Making its way up the network of pipes, it finally became stuck near a pedestrian crossing by the taxi rank on Avenida de Andalucía.
Three firemen armed with a hammer managed to break the drain’s grill. One of them got down into the pipe and pulled the grateful mutt out. This was greeted by a round of appreciative applause from gathered bystanders.
According to the Councillor of Citizen Safety, the municipal police took the bedraggled dog to the municipal animal refuge. The dog, which is about 5-years old, has no chip and is in good health.
