La Caleta from El Peñon
Residents of Lobres and La Caleta, both municipal dependencies of Salobreña, can now view complete, national TV coverage in digital format.
Analog TV has long disappeared in Spain, replaced by TDT; Terrestrial Digital Television, as opposed to Satellite Digital Television. It now means that we have a wide range of channels with the possibility of language choice.
Ironically, the more channels you have, the worse the programming is and more adverts you have to suffer, mind.
Anyway, a budget of 26,000 euros has pulled these two small villages out of a signal black hole and into full coverage, expressed the Mayor of Salobreña, María Eugenia Rufino, gleefully.
Editorial comment: ask any Spaniard of 50 or over what they think of today’s TV in Spain and they will tell you that when there was only one channel available, the quality of programming was much, much better with something for everybody, from children’s programmes, to armchair theatre and the double-diamond classification for ‘stronger’ content; not to mention the Familia Telerín cartoon family that told them, as kids, that it was time for bed.
