Building-Waste-Dump Protests

NRJ Proposed Building Waste DumpLocals from the residential area to the north of the Castillo Alto industrial estate are up in arms over a plan to create a building-material dump.

Apparently the Nerja Town Hall is just waiting for the green light from the Junta de Andalucia so that they can grant the licence.

Residents from La Noria, Pueblo Rocío and Jardines de La Noria residential estates (urbanizaciones), as well as the owners of chalets in the area – a total of 300 dwellings – are vehemently against the plan, owing to the dust and other contaminants created by heavy machinery.

According to the lawyer representing these property owners, they have submitted several written requests and other paperwork to the Town Hall in order to meet with municipal surveyors etc, but they have been met with responses to the effect that all the necessary reports on the project are favourable; i.e., the Town Hall has no other option other than to grant the project licence.

The Mayor will be meeting with the affected locals today where she will reassure them that until the Junta approves the project the Town Hall will not issue a licence.

However, she points out that since the two illegal builing-waste dumps have been closed down (the old quarry near Río de la Miel and the one in the Barranco del Viejo, near Frigiliana) the township has no such facilities. So the proposed site; some 1,639 sq/m will be the temporary dumping site for building waste until it is transferred to a residual processing plant in Canillas de Aceituno.
