A 24-year-old local from Láchar has been arrested for allegedly stealing a town-hall, official car; the one the mayor uses.
The young man, who has a criminal record, was also charged with breaking into a house in Láchar, as well as dangerous driving. The dangerous driving happened whilst trying to evade capture, which saw him hammering down a road with a 60-kph speed limit at a speed of 167 kph – his speeding was recorded on a speed camera… in the Mayor’s car, don’t forget.
The car had been stolen in the morning and it was the Mayor, herself, who alerted the Guardia Civil.
The driver avoided all the Guardia road checks and the car was finally found, abandoned, by the Policía Local in Fuente Vaqueros that same evening.
The Guardia Civil in Fuente Vaqueros took charge of the investigation and after inspecting the car identified the culprit and obtained a search warrant for his house. During the search they came across stolen objects from a burglary on the 8th of September in Láchar.
The Guardia Civil consequently arrested three other individuals in Láchar for having received stolen goods.
