Match Report by: Chris Darwen
The first ever El Clasico del Almunecar was abandoned after 65 minutes on Saturday night. I have been fortunate enough to report on many football matches in my time as a football writer, but this game can only be classed as unique.
In a match that will have divided opinion, I shall only report the facts. The 200 or so people that attended the match will have seen the events with their own eyes, and will no doubt have their own thoughts on what happened.
It is only worth reporting the game as 40 minutes long, as it cannot be described as a game of football after this time,
Juventud Sexitana took the lead after five minutes, an excellent strike by their talented number 10, Miguel Heredia Maldonado. As the first half continued, CD Almunecar City grew into the game and it was becoming very good to watch, competitive and even as a good derby game should be. CDAC equalised in the 38th minute, Tre Hayes scoring his first league goal for the club.
By half time, Juve had been reduced to 7 players – 4 players plus their coach receiving red cards. In the second half, CDAC also received a red card, reducing them to ten players.
The match was abandoned in 65th minute as Juve did not have enough players able to finish the match.
The match is currently showing as “partido suspendido” on the official FAF website, so both clubs will be waiting to find out the final verdict.
Next weekend CD Almunecar City will be playing at their training ground in La Herradura as work continues at the Estadio Municipal Francisco Bonet to fix the pitch. The exact kick off time will be confirmed as soon as possible.
