Dustbin Men Under Fire

The refuse collector operating in the north of the provincial capital are now being escorted after one lorry received impacts from an airgun.

One of the Inagra workers had been hit in the face during the early hours of one Monday when passing the Parque 28 de Febrero. The Policía Local were soon at the scene of he incident and found the wokers in a ’visibly nervous state.’ He had got down from the lorry to work the loading mechanism at the back when he was hit.

It hit him high up on his cheek, just under the eye and it was the driver of the lorry that actually pullet out the pellet from the wound. The police set about scouring the area but to no avail.

In fact, the Policía Local and the Policía Nacional take turns at escorting the rubbish lorries in ‘Apache Territory,’ as the north of the town is known because of it’s very high crime rate – it’s not somewhere you would like your car to have a break down as the night falls, that’s for sure. But on occasiones, as was the case on this particular night, both police forces were busy else where, so the rubbish men had nobody riding shotgun.

But it’s not only the dustbin men who are dodging projectiles because the municipal buses are also targets, but most from well aimed stones, as well as pellets.
