Granada Metro Opens

GRA Metro SystemYesterday at midday, at long last, the Granada-city metro system came into service with 12 trains, 234 staff and a sigh of relief.

The metro links Albolote, Maracena and Armilla to Granada, as well as serves the central metropolitan area. Along its 16 kilometres of track there are 26 stations (23 surface and three underground ones).

Naturally, the residents of the provincial capital were out in droves to use the metro on the day of its inauguration… and a chance to bag one of the 7,000 free tickets.

From today on, the trains will run between 06.30h to 23.00h, Monday to Thursday, but on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays they will run until 02.00h. At weekends, however, they won’t begin running until 07.30h.

As for ticket prices, a single costs 1.35 euros and returns cost 2.70 euros (no incentive there to buy a return, then). However, if you buy a 5-euro bono (pass), which can be used both on the buses as well as the metro, a single works out at only 0.82 euros.

Anyway, there are many other types of tickets, which we won’t go into here but you can find out more about either via email: Info@metropolitanogranada.es or you can phone 958 98 81 23.
