Guardia Arrested over Accident

AND Guardia ArrestedA Guardia Civil sergeant has been arrested, after allegedly ramming another car deliberately, whilst drink driving and having consumed drugs.

The alleged incident occurred in the afternoon of Wednesday the 28th on the AP-7 in the municipality of Torremolinos and resulted in multiple-car collision and three deaths: two women aged 30 and 18 and a man aged 26. The 18-year old died at the scene and the other two in the ICU.

Two of the victims were from Bahrain and a woman from Kuwait. Three more women, who were all travelling in the same taxi, are hospitalized,  are also from Bahrain.

The sergeant, who was not on duty, was immediately removed from his posting and suspended.

He was involved in an accident in 2014, according to the Guardia Civil, unofficial, police union (AUGC), in a collision between his car, a motorbike and two other cars. On that occasion he tried to leave the scene in order to avoid the breathalyzer.

According to the AUGC, the arrested man has a “conflictive service record:” he was removed as post commander in Tolox (Málaga) after causing a series of disturbances. In one such incident he was charged for threatening a policeman belonging to a different police body (Policía Nacional).

The AUGC laments that despite his service record the Guardia Civil HQ in the city of Málaga hadn’t taken any action to remove the serviceman.
