FTTH Coverage for Salobreña

SAL Fibre-Optic FTTH agreementThe Mayor of Salobreña, María Eugenia Rufino, met with the Area Chief of Telefónica, María Jesús Almazor, regarding the building of a fibre-optic FTTH system in the town.

FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) is a form of fibre-optic communication delivery that reaches one living or working space.

Such a system would allow residents to enjoy 300 symmetric megas when surfing the Internet and watching online TV.

Sra. Almazor explained that over 50% of the FTTH infrastructure would be installed during this year and that by the end of 2018, it would be extended to include the whole municipality.

The ultra-fast FTTH that will bring fibre optic connection directly to people’s homes and businesses is the most advanced broadband connectivity technology on the market.

The Mayor is a happy bunny over the deal struck and thanks Telefónica for its “investment efforts,” whilst the Télefónica representative thanked the Town Hall for its trust and for “turning us into technological allies.”

Sra. Almazor also announced that they intend to improve  4G mobile phone coverage. She estimates that 95% of the town already enjoys 4G coverage, thanks to work carried out to provide service for the increased summer demand all along the Costa Tropical. She added that this service would remain in place permanently, providing 4G+
