Overstretched Infoca

AND Campsite FireThe Andalusian, forest, fire-fighting service Infoca has been working flat out, combating around six fires scattered all over the region – the latest was on a camping site.

So far they have managed to put out five fires, although the Albuñuelas one is still going.

The Camping Santa Elena (Jaén) fire was reported at 10.05h this morning but the Infoca unit backed the local fire service managed to put it out. However, several caravans were damaged as well as some pine trees.

In the meantime Infoca is tackling fire en El Madroño, Sevilla where 45 fire fighters, two environmental specialists, two fire trucks, three helicopters, one water-bomber aircraft and a command light aircraft are working to contain the fire before it spreads further.

Spare a thought for those guys who are tackling the flames on foot – it’s hot enough in shorts and a T-shirt, without standing next to towering flames in full fire-proof clothing and helmet, especially if you are contemplating lighting a BBQ out in the wilds, even if it is a campsite or picnic site.

Córdoba, by the way, registered 45C yesterday and the temperatures are not going to go down until at least Monday.
