SPN Acid CatsThe owner of a restaurant in Alicante is being tried for allegedly throwing acid on four street cats to scare them away from his premises.

If found guilty, M.M.H. could face 22 months imprisonment on the four counts of animal cruelty.

The incident, which took place on the 24th of July 2016, left the animals with chemical burns to their skin, digestive systems and eyes, as well as ulcers on their mouths, heads, necks and extremities. In fact, one of them died three days later.

As a gesture of making amends, he donated 899.50 euros to a home for cats, called Felinos Lo Morant, to cover the veterinary bills.

The 22 month sentence breaks down into three counts of causing harm (five months each) and one country of causing the death of an animal (seven months).
