According the the Almuñécar Councillor for Tourism, the town received nearly 80,000 visitors during 2016; over three times its standing population.
The exact figure was 79,000 people, which is 2.5% up on 2015.
As for nationalities, nearly 40% were French and 21.5% were British. The Nordic countries represented 10% of the visitors, whilst the Belgians, 7.4%.
Another interesting point is that the Spanish to foreign tourist balance has shifted: national tourism has dropped from 60% to 56% whereas the foreign percentage has grown from 40% to 44%.
Editorial comment: I’m sure that just about everybody that has opted to live in Almuñécar would prefer it to remain staunchly Spanish, otherwise we’d have chosen to live in Nerja, wouldn’t we.
