A dog of the same breed

A woman from Villabilla (Madrid) has received a 1-year suspended sentence for cruelty to an animal; she let her own dog starve. The court found that she had abandoned her dog on a piece of land with no food nor water.

An animal-protection association discovered the animal on the 23rd of November, 2013 and took it in, but it was too far gone and died soon afterwards. They also immediately informed Seprona (Guardia Civil) to inform them of the dog’s situation.

The court findings state that the woman was the owner of a mastiff called Belle and that the woman admitted before the judge that she had left the dog without food and water; any care, whatsoever.

The woman said in her defence that she was going through a bad time emotionally as her father had just died and she had recently separated from her husband and that the dog belonged to him.
