The Almuñécar policia municipal have identified a group of minors who participated in the vandalic acts carried out in the Parque El Pozuelo, in Taramay.
Amongst the damage wrought was the destruction of the bust in honour of Pepe Matías – the park was named after him.
For those of you that didn’t know him, he was the Town Hall chief electrician, a popular member of the local bikers club, and a personal friend.
According to the police, the incident came to light at 22.47h on Tuesday the 27th of December when the police station received a call to say that a group of adolescents in the said park was “bashing the bust of Pepe Matías on its plinth,” with the intention of knock it off.
A patrol was sent round but by the time that they had arrived, the bust was missing and the plinth damaged. Nearby, the policemen found two boys who said that those that had caused the damage had thrown the bust into some bushes and then left in the direction of Hotel Playacálida.
The two witnesses also explained that when they had recriminated the gang, one of them had thrown stones at them.
Soon after the police came across three boys whose description matched that given by the caller and the two boys: R.L.M, (17), R.F.V, (14) and A.N.V, (16), all of them from Almuñécar.
The boys, upon questioning, admitted to having participated in the incident, together with a fourth boy.
