Roadworks are underway along Motril’s main thoroughfare, the Avenida de Salobreña, which used to be the old N-340 which used to go through the town.

The work comprises of eliminating architectonic barriers by lowering the pavements where they meet zebra crossings.

The Councillor for Maintenance, Gloria Chica, said, “the objective is that people with mobility problems and those pushing prams, etc, don’t have the difficulty of having to negotiate curbs.”

The funds for this work, which is being carried out by municipal workers, is included within the general budget for municipal services

Editorial comment: the present layout of the avenue is still a relatively recent arrangement, so, why was this not included in its original design?
