The Salobreña bus-stop structure hasn’t had any work done on it for some time, points out the opposition-party spokesman for the PA, Juan Collado Flores.
In his opinion, this is due to “incompetence” on the part of the ruling socialist party, the PSOE.
The project is financed (123,000 euros) through the PFEA funds (in reality, destined for rural employment), granted by the Provincial Council.
“It should have been finished within six months but that time has come and gone and Salobreñeros are still unable to enjoy the long-awaited bus stop. The funds for the task have been used up; the question is, on what,” accused the party spokesman. He went on to say that its cost is going to increase by 50%.
Meanwhile the Councillor for Works, Javier Ortega, said that they hoped to restart the work in December after the paperwork generated by the change in location is completed. He said that the 123,000 budget was calculated for the original location next to the junior school but that the new site has the added cost of providing the underground infrastructure (water/electricity) and surface work (pavements/access lane, etc).
“The costs associated with the original location were greatly inferior, thus we have had to modify a loan in order to finish the new project,” explained Sr. Ortega, adding that the PA Spokesman is well aware of all this.
As for the PA’s hinting at ‘missing funds,’ the Councillor explained that as the funds were from the PFEA, 70% goes on labour and 30% on materials, one glance at the building so far makes it abundantly clear where the money has gone.
Finally, he pointed out that the 6-month completion time started its countdown when the building was to be erected next to the school so that when the location was changed, the completion date was obviously put back accordingly.
