Playground Attack

spn-playground-victim-onlSix of the dozen, adolescent, playground assailants, whose 8-year-old victim ended up in hospital, have been identified and questioned.

Owing to being minors they cannot prosecuted, however.

The brutal attack took place in the playground of the Colegio Public Anselm Turmeda in Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands) at the end of the morning break on Wednesday the 5th.

It appears that the end-of-break was sounded and the girl picked up the ball that a group of children were playing with and made to go back inside with it.

As a result a dozen children aged 12 and 13 pushed her to the ground and held there whilst they kicked and hit her. There were no teachers on the playground when the attack took place.

Such were her injuries that she was briefly hospitalized; she suffered injuries to one of her kidneys as well as the obvious bruises etc.

Because this involves minors the police, the authorities in general and even the press, are treading carefully, but that has not prevented general public indignation.

However, apparently, according to the mother, this was not the first instance of bullying that the girl has suffered at the hands of other children in this particular school; something that she had pointed out to the Head Teacher before this latest incident.

The Minister of the Interior made a controversial statement expressing his view that this was an isolated attack and not a case of ‘bullying at school.’
