Sub-aquatic Photography Success

lhr-underwater-photography-onlSpain came away with Gold and Silver medals in an underwater photography competition and the Gold in the underwater video competition, held in La Herradura.

Competitors from 15 countries took part in this European-level competition and were evaluated by a panel of five judges all from different countries themselves: Portugal, France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.

We can’t emphasize too much the high level of the work entered, as well as that of the organization involved. For instance, the safety aspect was covered by the Special Operations branch of the Guardia Civil, the GEAS.

The organizational bodies behind the II Campeonato de Europa de Fotografía Submarina and the I Campeonato de Europa de Vídeo were a host of diving associations: The Andalusian regional FAAS, the Spanish national FEAS, both of which were under the supervision of the Confederación Mundial de Actividades Subacuáticas (CMAS).

The Spanish photographic team was composed of Rafael Fernandez Caballero from Madrid and Jesus Osorio from Málaga, whilst the winning video was from José Carlos Rando from Málaga and his assistant, Enrique Collado.

Rafael and his assistant, Oscar Núñez, won four Golds and a Silver and Jesús and his assistant, Eva Duarte, won a Gold. The Bronze was won by a Frenchman.

The Silver in the parallel video competition was won by Holland and the Bronze by Germany.

This was the second edition of this remarkable competition, which was held in La Herradura’s waters, whereas last year’s was held in the Azores.

This information comes from a town-hall press release, which doesn’t give the names of the medal winners from other countries, unfortunately.
