Beachfront Accident

ALM Paseo Accident 2016There was a car accident on one of Almuñécar’s beach roads yesterday morning, Thursday the 4th – fortunately, nobody was hurt.

It was in the early hours that a car collided with the ground floor of one of the buildings along the Paso de Prieto Moreno – that’s the one between the Paseo del Altillo and El Peñón del Santo.

Although it is still not known what caused the car to swerve into the wall, some eyewitness say that the car was not speeding and that it might have been a mechanical fault with the steering – this is speculation, of course.

Both the driver, a young woman, and a shop owner who was opening his shop at the time, next to the point of impact, were taken to the local medical centre for a check-up to be on the safe side.

Residents in this area have been calling for speed bumps along this stretch of road, which is a main artery, channeling one-way traffic along the town’s beach-front area.

Young bike riders tend to treat this narrow road as a race track and cyclist often cycle against the flow, making the Paseo de Prieto Moreno into a problematic thoroughfare in the heart of Almuñécar.
