Almuñécar Streets & Parking

ALM BlueZone machine1The IU (United Left) party in Almuñécar claim that they have received numerous complaints about the Blue Zones and their parking meters.

Local party spokesman, Fermín Tejero, says that people have found that the meters are often broken, which makes it difficult to obtain a ticket.

Furthermore, some car owners have received a parking fine even though they cancelled the fine immediately by paying for the annulment at the machine itself.

“It’s not right that in order to obtain a ticket or pay a fine you have to walk round and round looking for a meter that works,” considered Sr. Tejero, adding, “and when you eventual do and pay the fine through the machine, you still receive a parking fine through the post.”

In fact, he went on to state, “Blue-zone users shouldn’t have to end up paying for the incompetence of the private company concerned or the failure of the Town Council, after having privatized the system, to keep an eye on the company to make sure it carries out its task correctly.”

Accordingly, his party is demanding greater control over the blue zones and pointed out that as Almuñécar depends on tourism, this sort problem doesn’t exactly “invite tourists to come back.”

Finally, he pointed out that many visitors attempt to pay for blue-zone usage on the beach roads even though the blue-zone season has finished. For this reason he calls for the meters to be covered in such a manner as to prevent somebody inserting coins and/or to put large stickers on them in several languages pointing out that parking is free during the off season.
