A total of 33 hikers took part on this opening walk of the season on Sunday the 25th, shepherded by the municipal guides, Francisco Novo and Enrique Garín.
It was an easy pace along a gradual slope beneath the north face of El Peñabón, setting out from Trevélez… but not before tasting some cured ham for which the village is well known, of course.
Taking in chestnut trees, pine woods, oaks, walnut trees along the Sendero Sulayr and the GR-7 (provincial hiking route denomination) the group enjoyed the almost Alpine scenery.
And then taking an equally gently descent, they arrived in Juviles, with its old Arab castle.
Jealous? Well the next route is the Barranco de la Ermita – Jayena, on Sunday the 9th of October, so you’ve plenty of time to get down to the municipal football stadium and get the info and your name down for it.
