The Salobreña Centro de Salud now has a new name: Carmen Contreras, in honour of the ex-Head of the centre between 2009 and 2014.

The decision springs from a request from her ex-colleagues, backed by the Southern Health Board (AGS) and the Salobreña Town Hall.

The ceremony saw the unveiling of a plaque within the building, as well as the new name board on the facade of the building.

Part of the ceremony was a musical performance by Cellist, José Miguel Gómez, who played a piece by Bach, whilst the centre’s paediatrician, Moisés López, read  a poem by Isaac Newton.

Colleagues, family and relatives, as well as friends, all agreed that Carmen Contreras, who died two years ago, was full of human warmth as well as having carried out the running of the centre with excellent professionalism.
