The local emergency services in Motril carried out an emergency exercise today in the Chiringuito Oleaje.
The exercise centred on an imaginary fire in the kitchen which would produce several cases of smoke poisoning.
The object, of course, is to test the response time and coordination between the emergency bodies involved: police, Protección Civil, and ambulance/medical staff.
The exercise commenced with a 112 call for the fire service, who immediately responded, arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
The police, in the meantime, cordoned off the area to traffic and pedestrians, while Proteccion Civil provided First Aid for the ‘victims’ of smoke inhalation and minor burns. The ambulance service then arrived to transport the victims to the area hospital in Motril.
There have been several such exercises but this one concludes those scheduled for this summer.
