ALP Lanjaron fire Silence OnLJust over two months have passed since a tragic fire in Lanjarón left the villagers shock-stricken in the middle of the fiestas. Last night another victim died.

The actions of a disgruntled local led to three deaths and initially six victims with serious burn injuries in Pub Nacional.

During the night of Friday the 26th/Saturday the 27th another of the burns patients succumbed to his injuries, bringing the number of deaths up to four, amongst them the man who had started the fire.

The original incident occurred at 16.36h on the 25th of June on the Avendida de Las Alpujarras in the said pub. That weekend the village was having fiestas celebrating San Juan. An individual entered into the premises with a container of petrol and began dousing the pub and setting light to it.

Unfortunately the container caught fire causing a blaze, engulfing the man, leaving his body completely carbonized.

Several people who had attempted to stop the man were severally injured by the flames, with one of them dying only hours later. This was followed by the death o Francisco Vicente Manrique Gómez (Kiki) on the 20th of July.

It is thought that the Town Hall will call for a minute’s silence in memory of this fourth victim as well as decreeing several days of official mourning, as was the case for the previous victims.
