The Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the Italian police, carried out a raid in the Marina del Este to arrest members of a Polish Mafia operation.
Also involved were the Gibraltar Customs Police and the British National Crime Agency.
The whole police operation, which was coordinated by Europol, netted 19 arrests, all of whom were Polish citizens who allegedly belong to a Polish drugs ring, which moved the ‘merchandise’ using leisure craft.
Amongst those arrested was the leader of Poland’s four biggest criminal organizations, which carry out murders, robberies and extorsion.
Those arrested reportedly moved drugs from Morocco and distributed them through the European Union, mainly Poland, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and Ukraine.
Apart from the arrests, seven properties were searched, as well as leisure craft, within which 3,300 kilos of hashish were discovered. The police also confiscated a yacht, a motorbike, two satellite phones, several items of latest generation electronic equipment, 20,000 euros in cash and revealing documents.
One of those who was arrested allegedly had the task of making and maintaining contact with local ‘persons of importance’ in order to facilitate dealings.
