The 45-year-old woman, resident of San Martín de Valdeiglesias near Madrid, had told the acquaintance that she had to go to work but would return in the evening.
As the mother wouldn’t answer her phone and had failed to return, the acquaintance contacted the Guardia Civil to explain the situation. The police located the mother’s brother, who not only took charge of his nephew, but also reported his sister as missing.
It wasn’t until five days later that the mother finally answered her phone, explaining that she had been out partying in nearby Lavapies, drinking all the time. She said that she had suffered from an attack of delirum tremens (DT’s), and was being taken care of by a friend.
She said that she would be back when she felt better but hung up without saying with whom she was staying or where, exactly. However, a few hours later the mother appeared at the Guardia Civil post in her town.
