There is no other way to describe this alleged thief, owing to his give-away behaviour after stealing a motorcycle.
A municipal-police patrol in Sevilla saw a man riding a moped down Calle José Recuerda Rubio, which is a pedestrian street, but that in itself might not have been enough to move them to stop him – after all, it is August and it’s too hot to get excited about anything.
No; what moved the police to actually wave him down was that the 52-year-old rider was wearing the helmet the wrong way round.
Now, we can assume that it was not a full-face helmet or one of these ones that virtually can be worn anyway round, affectionately known as quitamultas by the Spanish.
This must have been one that normally has a plastic visor in front – often removed or lost – but covers the back of the head. The only way you can put it on the wrong way round – and I have seen people doing it – is by turning it around and tilting it back so the bit that should be down to the nape of you neck is sitting just above your eyebrows…
Anyway, they stopped him, saw that the steering block had been forced and that there was a skeleton key in the ignition… Oops!
They consulted the vehicle-ownership records and saw that the owner lived in the same street as where the arrest had taken place and quickly contacted the owner, who had still not realized that the moped was missing.
Lastly, has anybody been known to wear a full-face crash helmet backwards…
Note: The photos do not depict the person arrested but are only meant to be illustrative.
