Gualchos’ Transport Solution

ECO GualchosThe Junta has announced a public transport plan, using rural taxis, for those villages that are not serviced by regular bus routes, amongst them, Gualchos, Villamena and three Lecrin Valley villages.

Basically, there will be two routes; one between Gualchos and Motril, and the other between Cónchar, Cozvíjar y Dúrcal. These routes will provide a service for around 1,600 inhabitants and will run every two or three days a week, providing two outbound and two return services.

As for the price of the journey, as these are public services, the fare will be heavily subsidized by the Junta, meaning that the passengers will only have to pay eight percent of the total taxi fare.

So, we’re talking about 1.65 euros for Gualchos to Motril, and 40 cents for the Villamena one and 1.00 euro for the Dúrcal one.

Depending on how the experiment goes, it will be extended to other villages where there is a public transport deficit.

The plan will be coordinated with the town halls, which will hire the taxis directly, depending on conditions of the taxi licences involved.

Passengers will have to book their seats the day before at the town hall, who will organize departure times and stops along the way with the taxis.

The plan, therefore, has a double benefit: provide a public, rural transport service and at the same time provide economic support for the rural taxi sector.
