A married couple have been arrested in Salobreña, accused of carrying out several violent break-ins around the nearby rural areas of the municipality.
These robberies have been creating quite a lot of alarm amongst those living in cortijos in the area.
The Guardia Civil department that deals with this type of crime is Roca (Robos en el Campo) and is based in Motril.
This department began its investigations in May after receiving a complaint from a property owner in the Salobreña vega. The couple had entered into the property in an aggressive manner and stolen several objects of value.
This incident was followed by a string of similar robberies, always using the same method.
Amongst the stolen items were some easily traceable, unusual objects, such as five carbon plates all over a hundred years old. So teams were sent to all the purchase-&-sale outlets in the province.
One such shop in the city of Granada had purchased some of the stolen items; some of these had already been sold on and others were on display, so they were confiscated.
The married couple are a 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman. The police investigation continues as they believe that there could be more people involved.
