The Almuñécar Town Hall has approached the Central Government to have pedestrian railings installed along the N-340 from the P-4 traffic lights to the Los Pinos roundabout.
The Town Council considers that pedestrians walking along that stretch of the road “run the risk of being knocked down.”
The problem is that the many residents of La Palomas – the urbanización on the other side of the main road from Almuñécar – cross the road there to get to town. Add to that, there is also pedestrian traffic along the road from the Los Pinos roundabout to the Las Palomas one.
The situation is worse on market days and in the summer in general for obvious reasons.
For this reason, Councillor Rafael Cabellero, addressed the issue at the recent Plenary Meeting at the end of May.
All national roads (those that begin with ‘N’ as in N-340) are managed by the Central Government, so a municipality does not have the authorities to carry out any work on or besides these main roads.
