A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Barañaina (Navarra), accused of throwing boiling oil from a frying pan onto his partner’s face and body whilst she slept.
The 23-year-old victim, was taken to the general hospital, where she was treated for 2nd-degree burns on her face, hands, breasts and neck. She immediately demanded a court order against the suspect.
The Policía Municipal, who requested the presence of the regional police, had been alerted by a neighbour – injuries and deaths are outside municipal-police jurisdiction.
Allegedly, the man took advantage of the fact that his live-in partner was asleep, thus defenceless, to throw the boiling oil; something that the forensic police corroborated after finding oil on a pillow and wall.
The suspect fled the house but turned himself in after receiving a phone call from the police on his mobile phone.
The man, F.B.P.J, was previously arrested in 2009 after exactly the same kind of incident against his ex. A court order was placed against him but it appears that the case has still not reached trial.
After this latest incident he has been sent to prison awaiting trial.
Lastly, the Policia Foral de Navarra have carried out 73 arrested, so far this year, related to domestic violence, the majority in the capital city of Pamplona.
