The intrepid municipal police in Almuñécar, who strive relentlessly for our safety, pounced on 39 boxes of illegal strawberries that were being hawked on the lawless street corners of the town.
A local phoned the police to say that a car with a loudspeaker system in the Plaza de Madrid area was peddling vicious strawberries, so a fearless patrol was dispatched to apprehend the wrongdoers.
They soon tracked down the car – it’s not difficult to locate a car with a megaphone blaring – and informed the strawberry villain that hawking was not permitted within the town limits. Furthermore, caught red-handed – logical where strawberries are concerned – the said vendor could not produce a valid bill of purchase so the police swiftly confiscated his 79 kilos of nebulously acquired fruit.
The vendor, a local from Utrera in the province of Sevilla, apparently has undergone similar confiscations along the coast of Andalucia – in Barrios, Cádiz he was relieved of another 254 kilograms of sticky-red contraband!
A few tears will be shed in Almuñécar to learn that 39 kilos of strawberries will be destroyed… without a whiff of whipped cream in sight!
