Almuñécar Prisoner in Colombia

ALM Alejandra Prisoner OnLThe 28-year-old Almuñécar woman, Alejandra Pozo Martín, who is doing time in Colombia is a step closer to returning home to complete her prison sentence.

The family of this mother of four has moved heaven and earth to get her out of the Colombian jail in Medellín, as her health is rapidly failing. Thanks to their efforts the Colombian Government agreed to her transfer a month ago, but there was still a lot of paperwork and waiting in the meantime.

A special flight has to be organized – a plane is chartered especially for this kind of transfer and the frequency is between four and six months between flights.

A move is being made to get her onto a normal flight, escorted by the police, owing to her deteriorating health.

Alejandra was arrested in 2012 at Rionegro Airport in Colombia when she was found to be transporting 4.5 kilos of cocaine in her suitcase.

After a year in prison pending trial, she was sentenced to a jail term but owing to the fact that her four children had nobody to look after them whilst she was in prison, she transferred to home arrest in a flat to be able to look after her children.

Once back in Spain, she will have to serve the last five years of her prison sentence, but at least she will be in Spain and with her children staying with relatives here.
