Almuñécar’s San Cristóbal beach was crowded, but it wasn’t with holidaymakers but with 200 competitors in the III Triatlón Desafio Pikaeras Elite de Almuñécar
This three-fold sporting event included a swim from San Cristóbal Beach to Caletilla Beach, passing around the Peñon del Santo; a 20-kilometres bicycle race (two laps of a 10-km circuit), which included the steep hill road up through Cotobro, and then a five kilometre run around the old town, slogging up the Cuesta del Parque El Majuelo.
It would probably more fitting to mention ‘survivors’ rather than ‘winners,’ but even so here goes: Andrés Carnivalli del Castillo from Alhaurín de Torre (Málaga) came in first with a time of one hour, seven minutes and 23 seconds; i.e., with a 47-second lead over the runner up, Alberto Gónzalez Gil.
Anyway, there were plenty more category winners, but we’ll keep the article short.
Lastly, howewever, Almuñécar on the day (Sunday the 10th) was a traffic nightmare, mind, with it being virtually impossible for cars to get into the town from any direction.
