Goodbye Castle Crane

SAL Castle Crane OnLSalobreña has one of the most impressive skylines on the Costa Tropical… if it weren’t for the construction crane, that is.

Well, that is shortly going to become history because Calle Antequera in the old town will be closed to traffic on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th, from eight in the morning to eight in the evening so that the eyesore crane can be dismantled and removed.

For two whole years the looming crane has dominated the castle whilst restoration work was underway on the Arabic-Christian castle. One can imagine that the tourist office cringed for most of this time, but the torment is over.

So, in order to get it down and out, there will be some inconvenience – there are barriers at the beginning of Calle Rosario, for instance

Once it has gone, does this mean that all work on the castle will have concluded? No, because there is work of a minor nature still going on on the Paseo de Las Flores.

Concerning the said paseo and its entrance, the arched entrance will not be rebuilt as it is considered anachronistic in relation to when the paseo was built.

What goes up in its place remains to be seen but the Town Hall is contemplating placing a compulsory purchase order on a small empty building plot next to to the entrance so that the entrance can be enlarged. One of the problems with the old entrance was that it was too narrow making it impossible for an ambulance, for instance, to enter.
