The municipal police in Granada had to shut down a student, flat party with 284 guests because there was concern about the structure giving way.

These were Erasmus students, guests of fellow students that were renting two apartments in a block of flats. More and more students turned up and it became obvious that they couldn’t all fit even within the two apartments, then the party started spilling out onto the landing.

Soon after everybody moved up to the roof terrace, which was when the neighbours began to phone the police, worried that the roof would give. After all, one thing is the accumulated weight, which was bad enough, without everybody dancing, bopping and bouncing.

Getting nearly 290 party goers to leave the building, located near Plaza Nueva, took two whole hours – some were hiding under the beds, for example.

The police also took the names of 20 of them; the ones who had organized the mega flat party.

Curiously, when the municipal police in Spain are called out because of noisy neighbours, if nobody answers the door to the offending house/flat, they have to abort the mission because they don’t have a warrant to enter without consent.
