Work has begun on the apeadero (bus stop) next to the municipal stadium, as agreed in the last Plenary Meeting of the Town Council.

This is a half-way set up, costing 123,000 euros, between the existing bus stop next to the tax rank, and a full blown bus station; i.e., an “unmanned alighting/boarding point,” if you like.

Around 50 locals who are currently unemployed will be hired to carry out the construction work.

The Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino, went to pains to explain that although the apeadero will be built on the site set aside for the a bus station, it will only be a provisional arrangement, lasting until the bus station is built.

Readers might remember that prior to agreeing on this arrangement, it had been contemplated to build such a project within the school grounds, next to the existing bus stop.

The apeadero will be on a 1,685 sq/m plot, and have pavements and a 40 sq/m building that will house public toilets and a waiting room. There will also be a vending machine for bus tickets.

The completion date will be six months from now, if all goes according to plan.
