A Motril law court has sentenced a Salobreña man to two years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a female worker employed on his farm.
Not only can there be no appeal against the sentence, but he will also have to pay 5,000 euros in compensation.
The incident occurred in September 2014 in Salobreña when the victim was hired to pick runner beans on his land. It was whilst the woman was bending down to reach the lower ones. Her boss approached her from behind, and in the words of the sentence, “with the intention of satisfying his sexual desires did molest her.” She pushed him away and he desisted.
Later that day he approached her and “with the intention of obtaining sexual favours,” suggested that she went with him to Ítrabo. She declined.
A few days later he instructed her to pick beans on a plot that was away from the other workers. He then approached her and fondled her buttocks.
When the work day ended she told her partner, the farmer’s wife and her fellow workers what had been happening and then reported him to the police.
As a consequence of the said incidents, she suffered “post-traumatic stress,” which required 90 days to recover from, thus preventing her from working.
